Sarah and Michael: homeless to housed
The journey to homelessness is unique for each individual, but every person experiencing homelessness is, above all else, human.
The onset of Sarah and Michael’s homelessness involved a series of events that may sound familiar to you – untreated mental illness, job loss, and hefty medical bills, which led to an eviction. As a couple, it was difficult to find shelter beds together because there are no shelters in the area that can accommodate couples. For over four years, their focus was solely on surviving together.
Thanks to your generous support, Sarah and Michael were connected to the community resources they needed to address their mental and physical wellbeing. CCEH’s Resource Center team helped them develop a strong support network. After months of waiting, they received a Housing Choice Voucher – their first step toward a brighter future.
Today, we are delighted to share that Sarah and Michael have transformed their lives. Housed here in Concord, they are surrounded by the supportive services of CCEH’s permanent housing program. They have connected with a local mental health provider, have found a primary care physician, and Michael has enrolled in a vocational training program while Sarah is working on her GED. Outside of work and school, Sarah nurtures a growing collection of house plants, while Michael has developed a love for cooking. They are thriving in their new home.
Their story is a testament to the power of compassion, resilience, and your unwavering support. Let Sarah and Michael’s inspiring journey remind us that when we come together, we can create a brighter, more compassionate future for our community.
Please consider donating generously to CCEH’s Annual Fund, and let’s continue our mission to end homelessness in our community.
