Housing Support Specialist
Reports to: Supportive Housing Program Manager
Status: Full-time, 40 hours per week
FLSA: Non-exempt, Hourly
Compensation: From $20 per hour
Job Summary
The Housing Support Specialist works with clients in CCEH’s Supportive Housing Program. The role’s primary objectives are: 1) provide intensive hands-on support for clients before, during, and in the first 90 days after moving into housing, and 2) help clients maintain their housing and accomplish their goals through ongoing case management support, with a focus on increasing clients’ integration in their community.
CCEH’s Supportive Housing Program implements Housing First principles, meaning access to housing is not contingent upon sobriety, medication compliance, etc. The Housing Support Specialist must respect client choice and incorporate a harm reduction approach to maintain a safe and welcoming environment while providing “assistance with dignity” to all clients.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least one year of direct client service working with people experiencing homelessness or other vulnerable populations, or bachelor’s degree (or higher) in related field of study (lived experience will be taken into consideration regarding these qualifications)
- Familiarity with motivational interviewing and harm-reduction techniques preferred
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with full coverage auto insurance (because this role includes transporting clients, this is non-negotiable)
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office products, email, internet and other relevant software
- Experience with data management software is a plus
Responsibilities
Work as an integral part of the staff team to maintain a safe and welcoming environment and provide “assistance with dignity” to all clients.
- Provide intensive case management for unhoused participants and ensure they have identifying documentation and other verifications needed for housing opportunities
- Assist participants with lease-signing and move-in; help explain lease requirements and tenant rights; coordinate logistics to ensure participant moves into housing with basic necessities
- Meet regularly with clients in their homes and provide ongoing case management driven by client-determined goals, in a harm-reduction model, to include:
- Addressing activities of daily living
- Applying for local, state and federal benefits
- Transporting clients to and from appointments, as needed
- Pursuing employment, education or volunteer opportunities
- Learning financial management skills
- Connecting to other service providers and supports
- Integrating in community life and finding social opportunities
- Addressing physical, mental, and/or behavioral health needs
- Assist the Supportive Housing Program Manager with annual program re-certifications as needed
- Manage confidential client information in a safe and secure manner; maintain physical and electronic client files; document all client interactions in a timely manner via the Homeless Management Information System
- Track and log daily hours, differentiating time spent per program providing case management versus other job duties according to CCEH policies and grant requirements
- Understand various rental assistance offerings, how they differ between programs and how those differences impact clients
- Meet weekly with the Supportive Housing Program Manager for dedicated supervision
- Participate in weekly staff and team meetings and collaborate with other CCEH programs to identify eligible Supportive Housing Program participants, provide supplemental information on clients if appropriate, and provide support to staff as needed
- Develop and maintain positive collaborative relationships within the wider homeless services provider community; represent CCEH at events in the community, as appropriate
